Description

Dooly is a very handsome 16.2hh chestnut Hannovarian, 20 years old.  He is a delightful character and easy to handle, very sensitive and well liked on the yard.  Easy to catch, farrier, vet etc. Currently lives with a small herd on daily turn-out.  He’s been on the current yard for 10 years.  My daughter bought him as a dressage horse  as a 7 year old but, after a rear suspensory op, he came to me for bringing back into work and has been a happy hacker ever since. He is ridden in woods, open fields and on quiet roads.  He is a lovely ride when he goes out with another horse or even a walker or a bike.  He has a canter to die for and doesn’t hot up on open ground.  However, on his own he is anxious and can be spooky.  In general not a forward going horse but, to his credit, has not shown any inclination to run or rear.  We have popped small jumps and he’s good at pole work. On the rare occassions I go in the menage, I start off following another horse for about fifteen minutes then he is confident enough to work on his own.  Trained in Natural Horsemanship some years ago

Problems

Described above.  Experienced rider prefered, not that he's difficult to ride,  but he 'will take the micky' out of a novice rider. Details of tack and wardrobe will be discussed with any potential re-homer

Health Issues

All vaccinations up to date;  teeth checkd annually;  occassional physiotherapy sessions. Rear suspensory operation as an 8/9 year old; wound to rear stifle and fractured tibial crest 2016;  arthritis in hocks 2021; ulcers (treated and clear on re-scoping) 2023.   Believed to have been causd by a year on bute; Mud fever winter of 2024

Ideal Home

The best home will be where there are other horses/riders to hack out with on a regular basis. He responds well to routine. Its also important that any new home can offer plenty of turn out time in both winter and summer.  In view of my advancing years I have decided its time to find a new permanent home where he can be a happy hacker for a few more years as he is not really ready for retirement just yet.
