"It just goes to show that you should never dismiss older horses"

We re-homed Red a year ago as a happy-hacker for Rich, my husband, to ride.  Little did we know just how much more this 20 year old horse would give us!  Early on, I took him to a local dressage competition to check how he behaved in company.  To our surprise, we not only won the class but qualified for the Dressage Championships of Great Britain at Cricklands in October – a new experience for both Red and me!
Over the summer, we accumulated a hoard of rosettes and Rich was inspired to enter his first ever classes getting a 5th and a 2nd.  We came home from Cricklands with a 2nd, 5th, and 9th and were so proud of Red.  He’s a much loved member of the family and has taken us to places we never thought we’d go.   We’re extremely grateful to his lovely previous owner for letting us have this beautiful boy who will try his heart out no matter what we ask of him (even when dressed as Rudolf for the Christmas Dressage to Music which we won in festive style!).
It just goes to show that you should never dismiss older horses – they still have so much to give and have the experience and calmness to help you achieve all sorts of dreams you didn’t know you had!REd
