Mambo, a 16 year old ex-racehorse with winnings totaling £44,000, and Barbara found each other through Horses4Homes.
Barbara describes the experience of finding a match through the charity…
“Originally I was worried about applying for a horse; I hadn’t really heard of Horses4Homes at that time and the horses all seemed too good to be true. How wrong was I?! The process is simple: you see a horse and apply for it, the owners are encouraged to be honest about the horse and its abilities, and I was encouraged to be honest about my own abilities and intentions.

The application form is not too lengthy and asks all the right questions – it’s really straightforward and appropriate. You are informed before the application how much the owners would like you to donate to the charity in payment – there are no hidden costs. I have managed to get a horse that is worth thousands for a relatively small donation to a great charity.

He was described perfectly by his owner, and I would never want to be without him now; even when he retires he will always be part of our herd.  I could not recommend this charity more, and if I’m ever looking for another horse in the future this is the place I would go. I would love to be neutral and list the negatives too – but there are simply no negatives!”
