Animal Welfare Sector Support the Arrival of Horses4Homes

John Rutter, Trustee of Mountains Animal Sanctuary welcomes the launch of Horses4Homes
Equine welfare charities, including our own, have seen increasing pressure in recent years on their capacity to help all the horses, ponies and donkeys that more owners wish to relinquish, often due to economic strains. The new facility offered by Horses4Homes gives an opportunity for owners in such circumstances to find a buyer for or borrower of their animal – much to be welcomed when so many charities are overwhelmed with such enquiries. Provided all the proposed robust safeguards of the horse’s welfare are followed carefully, Horse4Homes will make a valuable contribution to giving more animals a secure future, and we welcome this new venture.”
Brigadier Paul Jepson MRCVS, Chair of the Equine Health and Welfare Strategy, BEVA Vice President, and recipient of the Blue Cross Welfare Award
There is a big problem with unwanted horses whose welfare goes into a downward spiral. Horses4Homes introduces a system of matching unwanted horses to new owners that focusses on safeguarding the welfare of the horse and satisfying the expectations of both the old and new owners. It is an excellent example of responsible use of the internet.”
Lee Hackett, British Horse Society
Horses4Homes has addressed many of the problems other organisations have faced with similar schemes and I do feel there is potential for such a scheme to be successful. Rebecca’s involvement with the project has to be an excellent sign and the sector should be open minded”
